Every org wants to be "AI-first."
Nobody wants to fix the data.
That image says it better than any strategy deck.
Top panel: AI First. Leaking boat. People panicking. Water rushing in faster than anyone can stop it.
Bottom panel: Data First. Same size boat. Three people rowing in sync. Moving forward.
Same ambition. Different foundation.
Here is what I see in most enterprise roadmaps:
→ Agents built on pipelines nobody maintains
→ Dashboards pulling from four systems with four different numbers
→ A "data lake" that is, in practice, a data swamp
→ Automation that does not produce better outputs. It produces wrong outputs at scale.
The problem is not the AI.
It never was.
Ask these questions, do we have following:
=> Duplicate records.
=> No lineage.
=> No ownership.
=> Nobody to fix it.
=> Zero governance
Clean data is not a technical problem.
It is a prioritization problem dressed up in IT clothing.
Someone has to do the unglamorous work. Fix the foundation first.
Until then, you are adding crew to a sinking boat and calling it progress.
